Dr. Wilbur Chen is a professor of medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where he is chief of the Adult Clinical Studies section at the Center for Vaccine Development and director of the University of Maryland, Baltimore Travel Medicine Practice. He is a board‐certified infectious disease physician with a focus on vaccinology and his primary research interests are two‐fold: developing vaccines for the elderly (a rapidly growing segment of the global population which is susceptible to infection) and developing vaccines for enteric pathogens (diseases chiefly of resource-poor and economically disadvantaged countries). Dr. Chen is an active investigator within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)‐supported Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Unit (VTEU), co‐principal investigator of the clinical core of an NIAID‐funded Cooperative Center for Human Immunology (CCHI), and was principal investigator of the NIAID‐supported Food and Waterborne Diseases Integrated Research Network Clinical Research Unit (FWD IRN CRU). He currently serves on the Maryland Governor’s (Larry Hogan) COVID-19 Task Force, is a Core Member of the NIAID’s Intramural Research Program Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB), and is a Voting Member of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
